The dowry sees the set of goods that a man or his family brings to his wife’s family as a form of compensation offered by the groom to his wife’s family, the dowry is also called the bride price
This practice is more developed in the culture of people of sub-Saharan Africa, in Pakistan, Israel,
The act of paying the dowry is what we call traditional marriage or customary marriage in the people who practice the dowry and each people have their own way of asking for the dowry according to their custom, tradition,
Among Cameroonians for example, they go through three stages to get to the dowry,
The first step is a knock door in this step; the groom officially introduces himself to the in-laws by bringing a whiskey to the head of the family, then comes the second step which is to ask for the permission to marry their daughter at this step the groom comes to take the list of presents to bring to his bride’s family. He brings a bottle of whiskey for the head of the family and a small envelope, drinks for the working session at the end of which will be given the list of presents to bring for the dowry, and after that comes the stage that the Cameroonians call the dowry itself at this stage the groom with his family bring what he could from the list given to him by his bride’s family,

When we read the bible, which is our guide to Christian faith, we will notice that the Christian faith is not against the practice of dowry; our patriarchs also practiced this practice,
Jacob should work for 7 years to pay Leah’s dowry and another 7 years for Rachel’s dowry; Shechem had asked Jacob to set the dowry for Dinah,
Genesis 34:11-12 “Then Shechem himself spoke to Dinah’s father and brothers. “Please be kind to me, and let me marry her,” he begged. “I will give you whatever you ask. 12No matter what dowry or gift you demand, I will gladly pay it—just give me the girl as my wife.”
God had prescribed to Moses and to the children of Israel about the dowry, Exodus 22:17 “… he shall pay money according to the dowry of virgins.”, King Saul had given conditions to David to take in marriage his daughter, 1 Samuel 18:25 “Saul said, Thus shall you speak to David: The king asks no dowry; but he desires a hundred foreskins of Philistines, to be avenged on his enemies…”
If your culture or the culture of your wife requires dowry, I encourage you to pay the dowry so that the marriage is honoured by all, Hebrews 13:4
