A Trial is a formal examination of evidence by a judge, typically before a jury, in order to decide guilt in a case of criminal or civil proceedings.
such was the case which took place with Our Lord Jesus, during the period of celebration of the Jewish Passover , in the year 30 this day of Thursday, after being arrested by the Jews on Wednesday night, he was led early in the morning on a Thursday, before the governor of the province of Judea, called Pontius Pilate, we can see this trial at our Daily Text, in Mark 15:1-5 “Very early in the morning, the chief priests, with the elders, the teachers of the law and the whole Sanhedrin, made their plans. So they bound Jesus, led him away and handed him over to Pilate.2“Are you the king of the Jews?” asked Pilate. “You have said so,” Jesus replied.
3The chief priests accused him of many things. 4So again Pilate asked him, “Aren’t you going to answer? See how many things they are accusing you of.” 5But Jesus still made no reply, and Pilate was amazed.”

Pontius Pilate was a Roman officer who was governor of the province of Judea and beyond this function he was head of the judicial system and he could judge and condemn to death any person who would be found guilty in his judgments, in our text , we see early on a Thursday morning in the year 30, the high priests led by Joseph Caiaphas brought before Pilate their Prisoner Jesus,
Indeed the high priests were religious authorities that God had established In Israel and in all the provinces of the kingdom of Judah, when the Romans took control of Israel and the kingdom of Judah, they recognized the authority of high priests and they gave to them the right to arrest anyone who could disturb public order, it is in this way, the high priests arrested Jesus because for them, he represented a threat through his teachings, his actions during the Sabbath days, he was claiming to be the Messiah, the son of God,
Pontius Pilate began the trial with few questions for the Jury instructions after hearing the accusations from the High Priests against Jesus, as in any trial the accused would have to plead whether he was guilty or not guilty to the charges that were against him, in his pleading, Jesus pleaded neither guilty nor not guilty, he preferred to remain silent face to the accusations that were against him, this attitude of Jesus was predicted several years before him, by the Prophet Isaiah who saw the Messiah, who will be handed over innocently before the justice of men, but by his humility he would not speak like a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth, Isaiah 53:7,
After several hours of hearing with the silence of the accused, Pilate under the pressure of the crowd, decides to condemn Jesus to death, this condemnation against an innocent person, who had not known sin, make the Thursday of that period, “Holy Thursday”, because an innocent person was condemned on that Day, although he was innocent by his nature, but on this day he had accepted to take our crimes, our sins so that we are declared righteous before the Lord God.
God bless you !
