When Jesus enters Jerusalem on the back of the donkey: Holy Week,
Good day my dear brothers and sisters,
Today we are in a special day.
It is the day when our Lord made a triumphant entry into the great city, the city that the Lord God has loved so much since the times of the Old Testament,
On such a day, we look back into the events that took place on that day.
Our text is on Luke 19:35-38 “They brought it to Jesus, threw their cloaks on the colt and put Jesus on it. As he went along, people spread their cloaks on the road. When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen: “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”»

When Jesus enters Jerusalem on the back of the donkey: Holy Week,

In this text, we see the Lord Jesus on the back of the colt to enter the city of Jerusalem, which was the capital city of the kingdom of Israel at the time of King David and King Solomon, and then it became the capital city of the Kingdom of Judah,
The City of Jerusalem is the city that God loved,
Several times in the Bible, God did not fail to express his love for this city through the prophets, Isaiah 62:1 “For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, for Jerusalem’s sake I will not remain quiet,
Till her vindication shines out like the dawn, her salvation like a blazing torch”.

Through this entry into Jerusalem, Jesus publicly revealed that he is the Messiah, the King who should come, as announced by Zechariah, in Zechariah 9:9.
He entered on the back of the colt while his disciples proclaimed his royalty,
This Triumphal entry was not only to claim his royalty, but it was also a sign of humility where we see a King coming on the back of a donkey instead of a horse with an army following him,
He entered with humility like a servant, not with royal clothes but with the clothes of the poor, Jesus Christ did not come conquering, to dominate by force as earthly kings do, but with love, grace and mercy, to sacrifice himself for his people.
He did not come as a king at the head of a triumphant army, but as a humble servant. He does not conquer nations, but hearts and minds. His message is a message of peace with God, not temporal peace.

His entry into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey was followed by what we call Holy Week,
A Week that marked our victory over this World and the powers that reign in it.
